Are There Cosmetic Contaminates in Water?
It is a known fact that not all chemicals are able to be removed from the water supply, thus leaving behind contaminates in the water we drink and bathe with. The cosmetics that are causing these problems are cosmetic products like shower gels and musk perfumes.
“Many medicines that pass through our body are being seen in the environment,” says Dr Jeff Hardy, manager of Environment and Energy of the Society. This finding has caused a lot of experts to demand treatments that are more effective for our water. There have been findings of prescription drugs, residue from gel, cleansers, soap, fragrances, body lotions and crèmes in the water supply.
Dr. Hardy made a statement about these findings that the human body is able to degrade the “drugs” found in the water, but the environment isn’t able to. Chemists all over are struggling to find the answers to the many questions about contaminants. They would like to understand this new threat, so that they can better help the environment to degrade these chemical cosmetic products.
The goal is to get to a point where cosmetic products and medicines are able to harmlessly breakdown within the environment and water supply.
