Are Younger Generations Superficial?
Surveys have shown that younger generations are much fearsome of getting wrinkles than getting skin cancer. Many young women are constantly sun bathing without considering the risk the UV rays can cause. According to the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, the sun’s rays give a relaxing effect to sunbathers. This could be the reason why so many young people are unable to kick the habit of getting bad sun vibes.
“Wrinkles are definitely more of a concern than skin cancer,” says Dr. Heike Mahler, a psychology professor at the University of California. The 23 year old professor has conducted studies of about 2,000 students in college, which gave her the conclusion that this statement is right.
It seems that the only way to get the young people from bathing in the sun constantly is to warn them about the wrinkles it can cause – even in young people.
Even the rays produced by tanning booths have shown to increase the chances of developing skin cancer. When 12 percent of students in the University of Washington had developed UV light dependence, 385 students were not willing to quit sun bathing, even if there was a history of skin cancer in their family.
