There are so many people pre-occupied with what beauty is and trying to be beautiful.  We are all beautiful in our own way, so why fight so hard to get away from average?  Well, stop fighting.

There have been many studies to find out what true beauty is and if there is any one trait that makes a person beautiful.  What they found out is astonishing.  When people are asked to pick a beautiful face, they almost inevitably pick a face that is a composite of many people so it is made up of the average features in all of them.  These composites take everything that is ordinary in people and somehow make it beautiful. 

In 1883, Francis Galton, who was a cousin to Charles Darwin, layed a composite of images.  At the time, he wanted to tell if there were physical features to discern vegetarians from criminals.  What he found was that the composite was more attractive then any one picture put together.  And this wasn't the only time it occurred. 

This same experiment was done in a more controlled environment using computer generated, mathematically average faces, and the results were the same.  The more average the face was, the more beautiful it was considered.  Evolutionarily speaking, it would be in the best interest of the man to find a woman with the most common features for the safety of the offspring.  A man would not want any unusual features when selecting a mate in fear that his offspring would also have unusual features.  This averageness implies that the person is healthy, and health is always one of the most important things to consider when thinking of having children.

Even more astonishing, composites of Miss Universe pageants using contestants from Africa, Europe, Asia, and America resulted in images almost identical.  This means that beauty is the same all over the world.  If that isn't enough, a composite made of women and a composite made of the average man put side by side are also almost identical.  The two look like siblings.  So this means that beauty in men is the same as it is in women.

So why do you fight the average nose, or the average lips?  The media has implanted ideas that beautiful is extraordinary and only meant for a select few, so now when you see all those super models who are thought to be so beautiful, you can remember that true beauty is average features.

So rise up average woman and take your place among the beautiful.   All women who consider themselves average, take the negative connotation off of the word average.  Average is good.  Average has been proven beautiful.  Average is preferred.
