Cleaning Out Your Make-Up Drawer

Most women have a multitude of foundations, eye shadows, lipsticks and make-up brushes that are cluttering up a drawer in her bathroom. If you are one of those women, you can break free of the clutter's clutches by going through the bathroom drawer and getting rid of what you don't need.

The first step to de-cluttering your bathroom drawer is to look at every brush you own. You really only need a few. You should have a fluffy powder brush, a good blush brush, no more than three eye shadow brushes and a good lip brush. If there are more than six brushes in your arsenal, you have too many. Toss any brushes that are missing a lot of hairs. Brushes that have lost their shape or are scratchy should also be thrown out. Using brushes that are worn out can take the precision out of applying make-up and can cause breakouts from bacteria build-up. Take this time to wash and dry your remaining brushes.

Rummage around and look at other tools like tweezers, nail files and eyelash curlers. You really only need one eyelash curler. Check the pads for staining or cracks. Throw out any that are old or damaged. If they all show signs of wear and age, toss them and buy a new one. You need two sets of tweezers: a set of slanted tweezers for grooming your eyebrows and blunt tipped tweezers that can be used for other purposes. Check all of your nail files. If the grain is worn down, they should be thrown away. They will just snag your nails.

Next, pull out all of your lipsticks. Many women are in the habit of buying many similar colors, while brighter, darker or lighter colors languish in the make-up drawer. Take a good look at all of your lipsticks. If you haven't worn it in three months, throw it out. The same goes for eye shadows. That bright blue eye shadow that looked so good in the store may not look so great at home.

Go through each half empty bottle of foundation. If it is over six months old, throw it away. Foundations can become contaminated with bacteria and can spoil. Liquid foundations over six months old can cause skin irritation and break outs. It is good to get in the habit of labeling each bottle of foundation with the date and year it was opened to keep from using potentially spoiled foundation.

Just 30 minutes can rid you of old make-up brushes and tools, out of style make-up colors and spoiled foundation. In a half an hour, you can reclaim your make-up drawer and make it easier to find your favorites every morning.
