Period of Adjustment

The skin is one of the most delicate parts of the human body. The skin on the face is more sensitive even the rest of your skin. This is due to the thinness of the skin, the facial organs, wider pores, and a number of other factors. The reasons aren’t important though, what is important is realizing just how delicate your facial skin is.

It is for this reason that so many people have troubles with their facial skin. Be it from over oily or dry skin or from breakouts it seems that just about everyone has troubles of some kind or another with their face.

Whenever you are experimenting with a new product to try and improve your facial skin, it is very important that you give each new product an appropriate trial run before you switch to something else. It is very important to do this for a couple of different reasons.

The first reason is that it is almost impossible to judge if a product is working for you or not after just a few days or a week or two of use. Whenever the skin is introduced to a new product there are a few steps that it goes through. The first is a period of adjustment and reaction. In fact, quite often starting the use of a new product will in fact make your skin worse than it was before. This can be your skin’s ph reacting, it can be your skin transitioning from your old product to the new and this can also be quite a shock to the delicate skin. However, once you get beyond that initial period the reaction should settle down. If it does not and you continue to see no improvement or worsening of your problem after 4-6 weeks then maybe it is time to switch to another product again.

Four to six weeks is considered a standard amount of time to give any product a fair trial run. This time frame is required for two things. The first is to give your skin the period of adjustment mentioned above. The second reason is to give your product time to start working. Most skin care products don’t have any instant benefits despite what might be advertised. Only through consistent application and use will any benefits start to emerge, so it is important you give it a fair amount of time to do its work before you are switching to yet another product.
