Our finger nails can an oft neglected part of a regular body
and beauty maintenance regime. Except for the few dedicated nail polish wearers
out there many regular people forget about their fingernails beyond trimming
and cleaning them. There is more to nail care than just a pair of clippers
though, and taking proper care of your nails can give a healthy and well
maintained edge to your look. Healthy nails and hair are also recognized as
subtle signs of good health, and are recognized as such by many people in our
society, albeit on a subconscious level in many cases.
The first thing about nail care is that of course regular
maintenance of trimming and cleaning is essential. Many major health problems will show up in
the forms of problems in the finger nails. In fact, if you notice something
completely abnormal about your nails ever, seeing your doctor can even be a
good idea. Vertical ridges and some spots are normal as you age but other
things can be indicators of further reaching health problems, so while you’re
doing that regular maintenance take the time to have a look and see what’s
going on there.
Next, it’s very important to keep nails moisturized. They do
absorb some moisturizer and this helps them from becoming brittle and cracking,
which is probably the most frustrating and unappealing thing that can happen to
fingernails. Whenever you wash your hands you should be applying a moisturizing
lotion anyway, but when you do this you should take the time to massage a little
bit of the lotion into the fingernails in order to moisturize the nail itself.
It may take a few more seconds, but your nails will thank you for it in the
long run.
Also, you want to be careful with any problems to the nails.
A long rip or tear can be repaired using some nail glue until it has a chance
to grow out. Also, don’t try to tear off any hangnails, as you will only
usually end up tearing some of the tissue beneath the nail as well. Simply cut
it off as best you can and let it grow out.
Proper nail care is just one of those finishing details that
give us a complete, put together, and health look. It doesn’t take much, but
just a few little things can help give us that extra edge.
