Taking care of your feet

Foot care is an important part of any self maintenance patterns or regimes. The feet are a tough and resilient part of our bodies; they take a lot of punishment over the course of a normal day. Unfortunately, tough and resilient isn’t always the image we are looking to project, so taking the time and care to look after your feet can keep them youthful and soft looking without too much effort.

The most important thing with feet is surprisingly self evident and equally surprisingly non-universal. They have to be clean, and neat, or feet can be some of the most unattractive parts of the body. Nails should be trimmed short, and should be clean at all times. Just take the time when hopping out of the shower to stop and check, and fix them up if there are any problems that are self evident.  Also, it’s not mentioned much in polite company, but some people, men and women, develop hairy feet. If you happen to have an extra little growth and you don’t appreciate it, just wax it off and be done with it.

Feet should be treated with a pumice stone a few times a week to keep from getting hard, lumpy calluses from forming on the bottoms of your feet. Pay special attention to the hells and to the pads under the balls of the feet, as this is where most of the hardening will take place. In addition to hard and unattractive skin, calluses can also form with dirt under them, leaving you with either blackened hard and crusty feet, or white, crusty, dead looking feet, neither of which is very attractive. Get scrubbing!

Finally, you want to be sure and apply a moisturizing lotion of some kind to your feet after you’ve given them a good scrub. This will help keep them soft and supple. After you put the lotion on, put some thick socks on and really give it a chance to soak in. You can use some very heavy duty moisturizer on your feet, as they aren’t delicate in the slightest and well benefit from a deeper penetrating moisturizer.

Proper foot care doesn’t really take all that much time, but it can really make a difference in someone’s overall appearance. All of us want to be able to throw on a pair of flip flops when it’s time to go to the beach, so make sure you’ve got feet you’re proud to show off.

I totally agree that proper foot care does not take that much time.  However many pampering foot products in the market are design for you to take some "me" time.  This is important.  However many busy individuals just need a foot product that they can use quickly everyday.

I have found that tea and olive oil is great for the feet.  The tea kills bacteria and the olive oil moisturizes.  If you have extra "me" time:  fill a small foot tub with warm water, two tea bags, and two teaspoons of olive oil.  In a rush, then try a soap bar that contains tea and olive oil.
