There are several methods of teeth whitening that are now
available on the market. Some of them work a subtle effect upon the coloring of
your teeth and some are dramatically effective. A lot of it depends on the
reason for the color of your teeth as that will determine how easy it is to
alter. From strips, to paste, to wash, to laser treatments there are all kinds
of options available. Also, it can be very important to take care to live in
such a way that you prevent your teeth from getting discolored in the first
place.
Discolored teeth can be caused by many things. Age can
yellow teeth, and some people are just born with yellower teeth. In fact, a
slight yellow tinge to teeth can often indicate the teeth of a person who has
incredibly strong teeth and rarely or never gets cavities. But more often than
not, those yellow teeth can be blamed squarely on two things: coffee and
cigarettes.
The detriments of smoking have been so well documented that
it’s not worth wasting more time on it. You know that you shouldn’t be smoking,
and in addition to your added health risks it wreaks havoc on your smile.
Coffee on the other hand is actually good for you in moderation, but it will
stain your teeth. If you find your teeth getting easily stained or very yellow,
it may be time to switch to something else other than coffee for your morning
pick me up.
If your teeth are already yellow there are whitening
toothpastes and mouthwashes as well as other products such as whitening strips.
The toothpastes and mouthwashes tend to exert a subtler effect, but if you only
have a slight discoloration then after time they may clear that up. People with yellower teeth may want to try
the strips which many people report success with. Some people report pain or
sensitiveness after using stronger products like that. If that happens,
discontinue and consult your dentist.
Your dentist is, of course, your best
resource to discuss whitening options, and can discuss both home and clinical
procedures for getting those pearly whites white once again.
If your teeth aren’t yellow already stay away from those
discoloring agents like coffee and cigarettes. If they are yellow, you need to
on your own or with your dentist assess how bad they are, and what the best
treatment method for you will be.
