The Malls Have Been Invaded: Cosmetic Procedures
The malls are no longer just for shopping for clothes, shoes and other common essentials. The malls have been invaded by medical spas or medspas, which offer the public various treatments, spa-like as well as medical procedures. The medspas inside the malls offer manicures, waxing, massages, laser hair removal, microdermabrasions and more. It is a combo of a dermatology office and a spa.
Some of these medical spas even offer plastic surgery. A lot of trade groups are wondering how safe these medical spas actually are. Botox shots are being given out daily at these malls and the consumers are more worried about their appearance than the “doc’s” credentials. Since 1997, there has been a 700% increase in noninvasive surgical procedures and the demand seems to only continue growing.
“Virtually every office patient I see talks about the reality TV show,” says Dr. Paul Wigoda. Many experts are concerned that people are approaching these procedures without truly understanding the risks involved. There is a recovery time, which involves bruises, tenderness and swelling. Some adverse side effects have also been known to occur.
The death of Kanye West’s mother in November has also pushed the safety of these procedures into the spotlight.
