Chocolate Does Not Cause Acne
Every chocolate lover will tell you at some point or another they have heard that chocolate is bad for the skin complexion. The Journal of the American Medical Association did extensive research and found that chocolate does not aggravate acne.
Milk, on the other hand, may aggravate acne. The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology published a study done by the Harvard School of Public Health. The study evaluated more then 47,000 women who answered a survey about their high school eating habits. The study showed that women who consumed three or more glasses of milk a day were 22 percent more likely to experience a severe acne outbreak compared to the ones who drank less then one glass a week. It wasn't just milk. Milk products such as cottage cheese, cream of wheat, and instant breakfast also had an effect on acne. What was most surprising was that skim milk had the biggest affect on acne. Studies showed that women who drank skim milk were 44 percent more likely to have cystic and nodule acne. The author speculates that hormones and bioactive molecules from the cows are most likely the culprit in the aggravated acne.
If you are having problems with acne, look to your milk products to be the culprit. You don't have to put down the chocolate any more.
