Going Green With Your Make-Up

You've heard the popular saying “Green is the new black.” Now you can extend your environmental awareness from your home, car and clothing all the way to your make-up and skin care products. A number of cosmetics companies are releasing products designed to be environmentally friendly. Not only are these products friendly to the environment, they use natural ingredients that are as good for your skin as they are for the earth. Most are free of mineral oils and harmful petroleum based ingredients.

Natural Balance brand makes products that are 100 percent organic and infused with nutrient filled natural oils. Their Natural Balance Hydrating Cream is loaded with pomegranate seed oil, rose oil and grape seed oil. This formula is rich and will protect dry, delicate skin from toxins and environmental pollution. They stay away from plastic containers. All of their products are in reusable glass jars.

Spa Ritual is the beauty line for vegans. The ingredients are all vegan friendly and their packaging is environmentally friendly. Their products are produced in clear, recyclable glass bottles. They even have environmentally friendly nail polishes that are free of formaldehyde, but still have great color and staying power.

Cargo has their own line of green products, including their Plant Love Botanical Lipstick. It is infused with shea butter and jojoba. The lipstick contains no petroleum products or mineral oils. The packaging is where the Cargo Plant Love Botanical Lipstick really shines. The tube is made completely from corn and the outer carton is made from flower paper that has embedded flower seeds. You can take the carton, wet it, plant it and in a few weeks, you will have your own wildflowers. The lipstick line comes in many colors, including ten that were designed by celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Mariska Hargitay. One dollar from the sale of each lipstick is donated to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
